Ice Hockey Betting

ICE HOCKEY

The National Hockey League (often abbreviated to the NHL), is an unincorporated not-for-profit association which operates a major professional ice hockey league of 30 franchised member clubs, of which six are located in Canada and 24 in the United States.

Headquartered in New York City, the NHL is widely considered to be the premier professional ice hockey league in the world, and one of the major professional sports leagues of the United States and Canada. The Stanley Cup, the oldest professional sports trophy in North America, is awarded annually to the league playoff champion at the end of each season.

The National Hockey League may rank a distant fourth of the four major sports in the United States, but that hasn’t stopped people from showing a big interest in betting on the sport. Bettors who are willing to put some effort into handicapping the National Hockey League are often rewarded by the public’s nonchalance to the sport, as bookmakers don’t spend the same amount of time creating NHL odds as they do a more popular sport, such as football or basketball.

Win Bet

A win bet is simply betting on one team to beat the other team in an event. In Ice Hockey a tie is also a possibility, so you can bet for a team to win in Overtime, or in regulation.

Including Overtime:

San Jose $1.70

Detroit $2.00

Not Including Overtime:

San Jose $2.60

Tie $3.10

Detroit $2.60

The Line

When you bet on the goal spread you need to choose whether or not the team will win by a certain amount of goals. If a team is favourite by -2.5 then you need to choose whether or not the team will win by 3 goals. If you think they will, you’d choose that team (San Jose), and if you think they won’t, then you’d choose the other team known as the underdog (Detroit).

San Jose (-1.5) $1.80

Detroit (+1.5) $1.90

Over/ Under Goals

In Ice Hockey you can bet on the total goals scored in the game by choosing under or over a predetermined amount of goals. In the NHL for instance a typical goal total for a game is 5.5, so you need to choose whether the game will have 5.5 goals or less. Based on your decision you’d bet on the over or under on that game. Prices for an Over/Under bet are generally set at $1.85.

Tri Bet

If you are not certain that your team will win in regulation, you can give yourself more ease of mind by placing a ‘Tri Bet’. In this type of bet you have two options, picking your team to either win or draw the game in regulation, or either team to win the game outright. This type of bet can help when betting on tight games, but it does not offer the same value as other types involved in the sport.

San Jose or Draw $1.60

Detroit or Draw $1.80

No Draw $2.60
